Mike’s Proposed Legislation

The FAIRtax: Mike Saliba is the first candidate in the State of Michigan to sign the 2022 FAIRtax Pledge to support bill H.R. 25, The FAIRtax. The FairTax is a single-rate, federal retail sales tax collected only once, at the final point of purchase of new goods and services for personal consumption. Used items are not taxed. Business-to-business purchases for the production of goods and services are not taxed. A prebate makes the effective rate progressive. The FairTax is replacement, not reform. It replaces federal income taxes including personal, estate, gift, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, self-employment, and corporate taxes. More information is available at FAIRtax.org

Ending Qualified Immunity Act: Mike has pledged to support H.R.7085, a bill which has already been cosigned by members of the Republican, Democrat, and Libertarian Parties in congress. This bill eliminates the defense of qualified immunity in civil actions for deprivation of rights. Qualified immunity is a judicially created doctrine that protects government employees or those acting with state authority from being held personally liable for constitutional violations.

The RPM Act: The RPM Act of 2021 (H.R. 3281/S.2736), is common-sense, bi-partisan legislation to protect Americans’ right to convert street vehicles into dedicated racecars and the motorsports-parts industry’s ability to sell products that enable racers to compete. The bill clarifies that it is legal to make emissions-related changes to a street vehicle for the purpose of converting it into a racecar used exclusively in competition. It also confirms that it is legal to produce, market and install racing equipment. This bill has already received Republican and Democratic support. Mike will make this a Tri-Partisan bill
